Mido and Big Tic

The Fossil watch company always has a great vintage retro look to their products and packaging. They really go all out when they develop a marketing campaign with displays and interesting promotional pieces. So I was amazed that they totally ripped off the Mido watch robot when they came up with the Big Tic figure. If you had any doubts check out the following shots and you be the judge.

I wonder if Mido gave them the OK?

Either way, it would be a very cool thing to own!

What a blatant rip off. Jeez. What ever happened to taking inspiration from something and then putting your own original spin on it? Someone probably got a big, fat check for just copying someone else's hard work from 40 or 50 years ago. Makes me mad I bought my husband a Fossil watch, cool as it is with a dancing digital robot, and all.
Hey, thanks so much for the blogroll link. I'm flattered!

Appropriate company name for the product.

There's two ways to look at it:
It is a copy of the original, but if they hadn't payed their "homage" that design would've been buried in time forever and no one would ever have gotten to see it again besides a few collectors. I've never seen the Mido display till now.

In the same spirit, I'd rather hear The Beatles than Britney Spears.
Thank God real music is still able to be heard or we'd all be stuck listening to video game music.
