Lazy Sunday

Raining all night so I decided to sleep in and not head out at the crack of dawn to whatever swap in happening on Sunday. For some reason the 4th Sunday does not have a big Antique swap going on so if I ever sleep in today's the day. After I did get up I have that "what did I miss by sleeping in feeling in the back of mind",then I go out in the garage and realize I don't need anymore stuff and enjoy the extra sleep I had.

Looked outside the backyard around 10:00 and had to take a picture of Squirt. He could not decide between in the dog house or out so he split the difference.

Have a great Sunday everyone....

A head for a body

A few years back I bought a folk art robot body out at the Rose Bowl, the only problem was he had no head. I always have been meaning to find the time to make a replacement but never got around to it so the body got moved around in the garage until the last 2 evenings. I finally came up with a new noggin for him and thought you all would like to see how it came out.

Thanks for dropping by Have a great weekend

Under Pressure

You just never know where a great ad character will turn up. I was talking with a fellow collector at his both this past weekend and spotted the giant air pressure tester. Picking it up and looking at the dial was this great graphic of the Hastings ad man. So now I have a giant air pressure tester which will never make into my tool box

Just wanted to let you all know the All American Collectors show is coming up this Saturday and Sunday in Glendale. If you are in the area be sure to drop by the show.

Shiny Gold tooth

Sometimes I find a piece that I can't pass up, this was one of those pieces.
The only nutcracker I have allowed into my collection so far.

Meet Nat

Hello everyone sorry for the lack of post the past few days but here is a new one for today. Since my main interest is Advertising figures this little guy is right up there at the top as one of my favorites. What can beat a little robot figure made up of nuts and bolt. I still remember where I got him from. Years ago when I was just starting to collect figures I was over at a friend house ( His name was Dug Miller, I am sure all you disneyland collectors know who I am talking about) he had the most incredible apartment just filled to the brim with anything and everythink disneyland, tiki, thrift store paintings and shelves of all kinds of rare and wonderful pieces. So I see this Nat sitting on one of the coffee tables and asked Dug what it would take to get it? He laughed and said it would only be for trade if I ever found something he really wanted. Looking around his place I knew I was going to have to find something great to get the Nat. Maybe 2 years passed and nothing seem to turn up that was worthy of a trade until one day at a local antique shop something did. The lady who owned the shop once worked at Disneyland during the early years and she had a large photo album filled with black and white snapshots. The greatest part of the album was that she had taken a picture of all the employees in front of the shops that they work at. She also had a shot of Aunt Jemima and probably the first ever Mickey and Minnie costumed characters they use in the park. So with album in hand I stopped by Dugs and finally a trade was made and Nat was mine.

I wonder if Dug still has the album after all these years?

Have a great weekend everyone.

Counters

I don't know why one day at a swap meet I picked up this dual counter thingy. I don't collect them but it was interesting in some sort of way. I thought it was odd that there is no way I can tell to reset them (maybe that is why I just had to buy it). So it sat on a shelf in the garage atop one of my overloaded Robot parts bins.

Well guess what I came across last Sunday at the swap??? another old counter thingy but this on you can reset and at only $4.00 how could I pass it up. So now I have 2 old counter thingys and my collection has doubled.

Another Box

A interesting box I came across in some electronic parts I bought a few months ago. Inside were rubber grommets but no main springs. It weird how people reuse little boxes and they end up changing hands many years after they were meant to be tossed. The box looks like it was from the late 30s. You have to love the great use of type and check out the arrow on the word quality.
