Vintage Harbie
Vintage shots of Harbie the Harbor Oil Company Mascot
Here a shot of the small version mounted on one of the company trucks. I know of only 2 of these figures out in collections and have seen one of them in person
A big Thanks to Vince for sending me these great shots of Harbie in his natural habitat.
Here is a shot of the small version I was lucky to see in person.

Rusty Cans
Among other things I collect are quart sized motor oil cans. I have maybe 9 and as you can see from this latest can I like them to show their age. These condition cans are usually affordable and when you get a few together they make a nice display.
I bought 3 different cans from a dealer out at the Pomona Car Show. He had about 20 and all were in bad to worse shape. I asked where they came from and he had a great answer. His Dad and him would go on can and bottle hunts up older traffic routes not used these days after the interstate highways took over. These cans came from an old gas station they found out there off the beaten path. The story was that there were a few walls that had fallen over and thru the busted walls they found out that who ever constructed the building at the time used all these oil cans stacked up and then sealed with concrete. What a great find and story to go along with the cans.

Take Care and thanks for checking in.

What's up Tikiranch??
I know your asking where's all that orange and black you promised. The blog is taking a back seat right now while I figure out my real life. i am happy to be working part time at my old job and hope it turns to full soon. The shift is 6:00 pm-2:30 am so I am still trying to get used to the late day start and early morning exit. I will try and get a few post together with some great vintage graphics soon

October is here
Well a few days late for that but things will be changing soon for the annual Tikiranch Hallows Halloween posts. I would have been ready on the 1st but wouldn't you know that crapped up economy caught up with me and I was layed off last tuesday. It was good while it lasted for the last 18 months. No notice or warning just a call to the big bosses office and a blah blah blah this and how things are slow that, last paycheck,3 days vacation check ( Oh and Randy if I give you the check please don't cash them until friday OK?) WHAT???? I thought you make me work 6 hours till you say Bye Bye and then don't cash the check? The company was on the fast track to failure and the owner is a multi millionaire so he has no interest in making it work as far as I could tell the last few months. I figured that out when places I ordered from were putting my orders on hold till some $$ came thru. Oh well I was happy I had worked out some part time gig at my former job that I left to take the job I just lost. I hope it turns into a full time position soon. The new shift I am on is 6:00 p.m. - 2:00 am which will give me time during the day to hit up some sales and shops, now I just need to figure out when to sleep....Still looking for other job options if this one does not work out in the Orange County area if anyone hears anything in the Graphic arts, printing mac operator field.
Thanks for letting me vent back to more serious stuff soon.
