On my way to work I pass the Catalina View Motel in Long Beach. They have a amazing sign and I always say to myself I want it! Well as I pass it today the Entrance arrow and vacancy signs are gone. I whip a U turn and park at the place. I talk to the owner and they are stashed in the back behind one of the rooms. So a deal is struck and they are mine.
I tried to ask why he took it down but his english was bad so I didn't understand his answer, I did notice they put the beacon light back on top of the pole where the 2 signs were. Check out the way they changes the vacancy sign, a little metal hinged cover over the "NO" on both sides. I am now in line for the big one when the day comes. I hope my neighbors like neon.

That's fantastic! Congratulations :)
Wow! Talk about good timing!
Thanks
I say bugger the neighbours, they're fantastic. Well done.
Wow, that is awesome. Just the fact that you even thought to stop and ask about the sign shows that you are a die hard collector! How many people would have noticed that they were gone. Kudos to you, I wonder if they would have just trashed the signs.
So, you are going to restore the neon (and possibly the paint)?
oh man!!! that is SO cool!
I love old neon signs, particularly motel signs. I am far too jealous to offer any congratulations.
Wow, lucky you!
The best part of this hooker house is that you can't even see Catalina.
